Lady escapes arrest after attempting to smuggle firearm into police cell

The vigilance of a police officer on duty at the Cantonment Police Station in Accra has foiled an attempt by a young lady to smuggle a firearm and ammunition into the police cell Sunday, July 11.

According to the police, the young lady, aged about 23 years with a Nigerian accent came to the charge office with two packs of Papaye-labeled fast food to be served on a robbery remand prisoner in the cells.

The duty officer suspected something fishy with the parcel and went a step further to thoroughly inspect the food package. It was found that the package contained a locally manufactured pistol with one AA cartridge concealed in one of the food packs with the food covering it.

The suspect lady however managed to flee the scene.
