Ursula, Kan Dapaah should have been part of cabinet – Analyst

A security analyst, Mr Paul Boateng, has criticized President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s 19-member cabinet ministers which is without Ministers of National Security and Communications.

Mr Boateng said in the modern era, security and communication should be paramount to every government and therefore such Ministers should have been considered for the cabinet positions to be able to advise the government on issues on security and communications.

President Akufo-Addo on Thursday presented to Parliament without two key Ministers, that of National Security, Albert Kan Dapaah and Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful.

The list is made up of Ministers of Trade and Industry, Aan Kyeremanten, Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, Defence, Dominic Nitiwul, Interior, Ambrose Dery and Energy Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh.

The rest were Attorney General and Ministry of Justice, Godfred Odame, Foreign Affairs, Shirley Ayorkor Botchway, Food and Agriculture, Dr. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, Education Dr. Yaw Adutwum, Health Kwaku Agyemang-Manu, Local Government and Rural Development, Dan Kwaku Botwe, Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel Abdulai Jinapor, Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecelia Abena Dapaah and Railway Development John Peter Amewu.

The remaining Cabinet Ministers are Employment and Labour Relations, Ignatius Bafuor Awuah, Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Mavis Hawa Koomson, Works and Housing, Francis Asenso Boakye, Tourism, Arts and Culture, Ibrahim Awal Mohammed and that of Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu.

The list has been criticized as being incomplete since these two ministers were left out.

Reacting on the Onua TV and Onua FM’s Maakye on Friday hosted by Captain Smart on Friday, Mr. Pauld Boateng said “the president has changed the security act so maybe he wants the security minister to concentrate but National Security Minister coordinate all the security agencies and as such he should have been part”.

“So if he is not part of the cabinet it’s not complete because they propose the laws. They discuss issues about the state and how it should be solved”.

Mr. Boateng said “they should have been part. The Communications Minister should have been part. It would have helped”.

He explained that “how the world is moving. Fraud and cybercrime are increasing so he should have been part of the cabinet”.
