Western Regional Minister Okyere Darko-Mensah honored in France

The Western Regional Minister and Member of Parliament for Takoradi Kwabena Okyere Darko-Mensah has been honored at the Better World Fund Cannes Film Festival held in France.

He was celebrated for promoting and implementing responsible mining activities in Ghana.

The Better World Endowment Fund is composed of a team of world-class experts, influencers, and activists from the business, academia, media, and entertainment industries.

The tribe of highly – influential people is continuously connected digitally and meets periodically during high-level global events and selects the best personalities and innovative leaders of the world that make the world a better place.

This year’s program in Cannes was with the main objective to propose, analyze and decide on specific actions, platforms, initiatives for women’s rights, and/or campaigns to collectively support to foster climate adaptation, sustainable energies, blue economy globally.

Mr Okyere Darko-Mensah was honored with the Social Impact Award for promoting zero mercury in small-scale mining in Ghana.

For two consecutive years, the Minister and his team have organized The Ghana Gold Expo to engage stakeholders to adopt best practices in mining.

The Ghana Mining Week, which is the second edition of The Ghana Gold Expo was held in July 2021 in Takoradi and is considered the gold hub of the country.

The event provided a platform to discuss mining economic growth and focusing on efficient and quality processing through modern technology and also the safe working environment which ultimately has a good impact on communities.

For the Minister, it is all about “…transformative change through the pursuits of responsible small scale mining which resultant effect is the production of ethical gold in Ghana.”

Ghana is the largest producer of gold in Africa, overtaking South Africa in 2019.
