A prisoner at the Nsawam Medium Security Prison has defrauded a Kumasi housemaid who worked in Dubai for more than GHc 30,000 by pretending to be an American marine engineer.
Sadat, the prisoner, allegedly used Facebook to approach the woman and establish a relationship with her through video and phone calls.
The victim claims that Sadat introduced her to a woman who claimed to be his mother, and the two of them talked about getting married.

She quit her job in Dubai and went back to Ghana to have a traditional wedding because she thought they were sincere.
According to Sadat, she shipped wedding supplies in a container that required port clearance.
When the container never arrived, she discovered it was a scam, even though she had paid GHS 30,000 to cover the costs. She reportedly passed out from shock after realizing the trick.
The emotional trauma was adversely affected by Sadat’s attempt to blackmail her using explicit videos that she had sent.
