One of Ghana’s veteran musicians, Kwabena Kwakye Kabobo, known by stage name, K.K. Kabobo, passed away last Thursday March 14, 2024.
He had been battling a liver disease, before his untimely death, at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).
Prior to this unfortunate development, a fundraising campaign was set up to help K. K. Kabobo sort out his medical bills and other expenses.
The former president of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama donated GHC5,000, while popular Ghanaian songstress, Wendy Shay, donated GHC10,000, in order to show their love and support towards K.K. Kabobo, now deceased.
Kwabena Kwakye Kabobo was a registered member of the Professional Musicians Association of Ghana (PROMAG), and he had, also, served as a copyright management board member on that team.
He gained fame with his hit song “Onyame Ahu Wo“, with which he established his first band, Explosive Jets, in 1978.
According to Ghanaian history archives, the late Kabobo worked as a pupil teacher for two years, before diverting into music.
He is survived by 16 children from five different mothers.
May his soul rest in peace!
