Register your sim cards by December or get blocked – Ursula Owusu

Ursula Owusu Ekuful, Minister of Communication and Digitization

The Minister for Communication and Digitisation, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, has cautioned that all sim cards that are not registered using identification cards by December will be impeded.

In a post the minister made on Facebook, Mrs Owusu-Ekuful said the choice to re-register sim cards is important for measures to clasp down on digital hoodlums taking cover behind the namelessness of advanced frameworks to submit solitary demonstrations.

She cited that plans are far cutting edge to make the National Identification card (Ghana Card) the solitary public character card for all distinguishing proof and business purposes in the country.

”It has become imperative that we clamp down on cyber criminals hiding behind the anonymity of digital systems to commit antisocial acts, and the Sim re-registration exercise is a key part of that campaign. All SIM cards and SIM enabled devices would be re-registered from June and end in December. All unregistered sims will be blocked.”

She reiterated the ministry’s commitment to ensuring improvement connectivity nationwide.

”My ministry is also working to improve access to connectivity across the country with rural telephony and digital inclusion projects which will see the construction of 2016 solar powered cell sites in unserved and underserved rural communities.”
