T’di Robbery: Police Shoot Suspect In Taadi Market Robbery, one arrested
One person suspected to be connected to the Takoradi market circle robbery has been shot dead by police.
One other person was arrested as part of the Wednesday evening operation.
The operation was conducted by a team of officers from the Western Regional Criminal Investigations Department together with SWAT officers from the Accra Regional command.
According to a police communiqué, they closed in on the suspects at Elmina, along the Cape Coast-Takoradi road.
In an attempt to arrest the suspects, a shootout ensued and one of the suspects, identified as Shankiki, aged about 30 years, was gunned down whilst two others managed to escape on a motorbike.
A blue motorbike was recovered from the scene of the operation by police.
Police later located the hideout of the suspects and a search was conducted.
One live and one spent AK-47 ammunition, a live tortoise and a talisman were recovered.
A suspect, Inusah Fuseini, aged 25-years, who was at the hideout was arrested for interrogation.
The body of the suspected robber has been conveyed to the police hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police say efforts are underway to arrest those on the run for interrogation.
The robbery, on April 12, left 61-year-old, Charles Kwakye Agyako, dead after he was shot in the chest by the robbers on motorbikes after withdrawing money from a bank.
The Western Regional Police Command had offered a GHS10,000 bounty for information on the robbers.
