After Morocco withdrew from the competition, CAF reorganized Group C of the 2022 CHAN.
The Moroccan national team withdrew because their request for a direct flight to Constantine, Algeria, where they were intended to base themselves during the competition, was denied.
Due to the tense relations between the two administrations, Algeria has added to its closed borders since 1994 by blocking all Moroccan flights from entering its airspace.
The previous tournament champion Atlas Lions were supposed to face Sudan on Sunday afternoon, but the game was cancelled, forcing CAF to reorganize the group.
The TotalEnergies African Nations Championship (CHAN) Algeria 2022 Organising Committee for the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) convened today in Algiers in accordance with the rules, according to a statement issued on Monday.
“The Committee decided that Group C will be composed of three teams and the first two teams will qualify for the knockout stages.
“The Organising Committee has referred the matter of Morocco no show at yesterday’s scheduled fixture against Sudan to the competent judicial body.”
Meanwhile, Madagascar defeated Ghana 2-1 in the group’s only game so far.
