On Wednesday, 21 March, 2024, pioneer of ‘Borga High-life‘, George Darko gave up the ghost, although cause of death is yet to be revealed.
Borga High-life is a combination of high-life, guitar rhythms, funk, pop and bits of jazz; with the vast knowledge George had, he put all these elements and formed a lasting niché.
He was a great vocalist who brought a contemporary sensitivity to the hi-life music scene since the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s.
As a youngster, the late George Darko learned cultural dancing and drumming, because he was encourage by a teacher, who got him a guitar as motivation.
But alongside, he was lovestruck by the Beatles Music, Rolling Stones and that of Jimi Hendrix, after which he played with the 3rd dimension band from Kumasi.
Fortunately, George Darko had the opportunity to travel to Germany. Over there, he created another band with some friends : Jagger Nii Sai Botchway, ‘Sometimer‘, Lee Duodu and others; they named it the Bus Stop band.
George Darko went solo after the group disbanded, and has performed a lot of singles; he recorded his first solo album on cassette, dubbing it ‘The Reborn Avengers‘.

The ‘Ako Te Brofo‘ single remains a masterpiece in the whole of the world and, even though dead, George Darko is, currently, featured on ‘Kings Of High-life‘ compilation album.
George Darko died as Tufuhene of Akropong Akuapem, bearing the stool name, ‘Nana Ampem Darko I‘.
