Man Who Stole Rice Jailed 20 Years By Court

The Ado Ekiti Division of the Ekiti State High Court handed down a 21-year prison sentence to a man by the name of Jimoh Dele.

On May 11, 2020, the defendant is accused of entering into Oluwayemisi Adeleye’s home and shop in the Ajilosun district of Ado Ekiti, next to the Mobil Petrol Station and Waterworks, and stealing commodities and food items valued more than N234,000.

According to the prosecutor Kunle Adeyemo, the charges breached sections 413 and 390(9) of the criminal code law, Cap. C16, Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.

When making her complaints to the police, the complainant stated that;

“My shop was burgled twice, in May 2020 and June 2021 during which my foodstuffs and soup ingredients, including rice, semovita, wheat and tomato paste, among others, which I was selling, were stolen.”

After the court proceedings, the presiding judge, Justice Olalekan Olatawura found the defendant guilty and as result, sentenced him to 14 years on count one and seven years on count two.
