Tems becomes first Nigerian artiste to be nominated for an Oscar Award

Temilade Openiyi, better known by her stage name Tems, is a well-known Nigerian singer who has been nominated for the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held on March 12, 2023.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Twitter account on Tuesday announced this in the 2023 nomination list.

Before the 95th Academy Awards, which will be held in Los Angeles, Tems was nominated for Best Original Song.

She was nominated for Best Original Song for her work with Rihanna on the song “Lift Me Up.” The duo was up for a nomination for “Best Original Song.”

One of the songs from Marvel’s “Black Panther: soundtracks for Wakanda Forever. The soulful song was co-written by Rihanna and Tems.

Ryan Coogler directed the film and Ludwig Göransson produced the music.

Many Nigerians are excited about the singer’s nomination because it comes just a week after the famous American rapper Snoop Dogg asked to work with her.
